WHAT IS LU JONG?

Lu Jong is rooted in principles of Tibetan Medicine and is a foundational practice of Tantrayana Buddhism.

Developed by the yogis of Tibet, these 21 movements are designed to systematically release blockages in the body. By opening the subtle body channels, we harmonize energy flow, thereby supporting self-healing and resilience. Special focus is given to the mobility of the spine.

While it has very practical health purposes, Lu Jong’s meditative movement and long, slow breathing patterns also provides deep relaxation and focus, setting the foundation for deeper practices on the Tibetan yogic path.

The beauty of Lu Jong is its accessibility and effectiveness for bringing all kinds of people into balance.

the practice

In this teaching series, you will receive the full Lu Jong Level 1 practice,
as taught in the lineage of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche.

This includes 4 groups of movements:

  • The Five Elements Movements
(for nurturing the spine & balancing the core energies)

  • The Five Body Parts Movements
(for musculoskeletal alignment & joint mobility)

  • The Five Vital Organ Movements
    (for nourishing the organs)

  • The Six Conditions Movements
    (for addressing common imbalances)

The movements are gentle, as well as modifiable.
All abilities and ages will benefit from the practice.

The Rich
Background

Several amazing contexts converge in the practice of Lu Jong, including Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan Medicine, Five Elements Theory, Tantrayana and Bon.

In this teaching series, I will share some of this background of Lu Jong in order to help motivate your practice and deepen your understanding of the deep meaning of what we are doing.

Participants will:

  • Receive the rich background and goal of this practice

  • Understand the importance of balancing the elements in body and mind

  • What the subtle body is and how to care for it

  • How to tap into the powerful medicine of relaxation

  • The goal of Buddhism and the specific path of Tantrayana

  • Experience the state of calm mind and natural mind meditation and the wisdom that bubbles from this place

The Format

This series is a combination of videos that you can engage with at your own convenience, as well as live practice sessions with Farrah.

  • The videos introduce the background and benefits of Lu Jong, as well as fundamentals such as practice guidelines and breathing principles.

  • In our live sessions, we will come together as a group to practice, explore, ask questions and deepen our experience. These will also be recorded if you are unable to attend live (although it is highly encouraged to do so to receive the most benefit!).

I strongly feel that this format offers a powerful advantage, where I am able to provide more information and context, and also maximize our time together to focus on embodying the practice and receiving support. I think you will agree!

the teacher

I originally met the teacher of this lineage, Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche, through a very auspicious encounter in India in February 2002. I attended the first course that he offered in the Nangten Menlang Buddhist Medical Center in Manali.

This was my first introduction to Lu Jong, and this was the beginning of my incredible journey with the teachings of Tibetan Medicine, Tantrayana and the warmth and wisdom of Tulku-la.

In the following 20 years, I have continued to work for Tulku Lobsang’s organization (Nangten Menlang International, now headquartered in Vienna, Austria), as the North American president and tour organizer, and the chief Editorial Journalist. I have been integral in the development of the Lu Jong Teacher Training program, including writing the teacher’s manual, as well as the manuals for the other educations offered by NMI.

Since 2012 I have been training teachers of Lu Jong Tibetan Yoga and excitedly watching its benefits spread throughout the US and Canada.

My aim is to share these powerful, accessible, traditional Tibetan healing practices in order to empower others to be more clear, calm and energetic so we each can live a fulfilling, healthy and valuable life aligned with our heart’s desires!

See what these practices can do for your vitality, clarity and joyfulness!

FAQs

Will the live sessions be recorded if I am unable to attend?

Yes.

What if I have an injury or physical limitation?

A beautiful part of this practice is developing inner awareness and honoring our present circumstances. All movements are modifiable. Then your practice becomes more about finding that boundary and respecting it, every time. And, you likely get to have the joy of seeing this limitation slowly abate with consistent practice!

How long will I have access to the teaching material?

Through the end of 2022. That is almost 9 months AFTER the six sessions.

I know these days it is common to have indefinite access to course material. I also know that the traditional Tibetan way is to simply receive the teachings orally and then implement them, with no crutch to fall back on.

It is my feeling that it will serve you best if we choose a middle way.

When things are indefinitely available, we tend to postpone them, undervalue them and not show up fully. It is important to me that you learn the movements, and then really do them!

My intention is for you to prioritize Lu Jong from March 6 - April 10, while you have the support of me, Farrah, and your fellow participants. I will offer handouts and other supportive material to maximize your experience and learning retention. But, sometimes life happens and despite our best intentions, we are pulled away, therefore the extra time.

If you have not internalized the Lu Jong practice by that time, then I suspect you are not motivated to do it, no matter how much more time you have.

Can I teach others after participating in this series?

No. This teaching is meant for your self-practice only.

We have developed a comprehensive Lu Jong Teacher Training program for preparing one to share the practice with others. There is far more nuance and background information than what will be covered in this experiential teaching.

However, if you feel called to teach Lu Jong, please reach out to me because we would love to support you to do so, with the full blessing of Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche. This is how we maintain the quality of the teaching.
